Weapon of choice: Ibanez Soundgear 800 Bass Guitar.

Also known as: "Slim" -- because I'm not.

How did you end up in the band? I formed the band after I left school. It was all downhill from there really.

If you weren't in Pitchshifter what would you be doing? I would still be involved in music, I'm sure. Playing, touring, tour managing. I have just started a new band called The Blueprint.

If you had to be any other member of the band who would it be and why? It would have to be Jason. He gives the expression "let your hair down" a new meaning -- he takes his hair off.

How do you prepare before a gig? Normally, it involves catching up with old friends and relaxing backstage. I will always head out to watch the support bands.

What's the first album you owned, and what's the last album you purchased? Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast. Thursday, Full Collapse.

Last great book you read? Chuck Palahnuik, Survivor. Buy it today, you wont be disappointed.

Three things you couldn't live without? My girlfriend, my brother, and my Mac G3.

Three things you could live without? War, poverty, and manufactured music.

Your choice: the contents of your wallet or the contents of your refrigerator? One £20 note, Greenpeace member card, musicians union member card, bank card, Greenpeace visa card, photo of my girlfriend, two plectrums, and a photo of myself with no hair (just to remind me how dumb it looked).

Biggest misconceptions, both about the band and you personally? Someone once posted on our message board that J.S. had died in a car crash. Insanity.

People or organizations who are, or have been, influential visionaries to you (musical, literary, artistic, political, social, etc.). Jello Biafra, Dead Kennedys, Bill Hicks, Douglas Coupland, Chuck Palahnuik, Mick Akerman, Thursday, Refused.

Absolute must have's while on tour: Ear plugs, CD walkman, laptop, books, mobile phone, and marmite.

Pitchshifter has one simple rule while on tour: make it to your bunk before passing out and you're home free -- fail to and you're fair game for any number of embarrassing shenanigans. Who/what is your favorite tour story involving this? We were at the Canadian/US border, and we were asked to leave the tour bus and go into the passport office to match our faces with our passports. That may sound very straight forward, but we had just played a sell-out show with Incubus and we were all very, very drunk. We were told to stand in a room while a customs officer asked us if we had any illegal substances with us. At this point we forgot no one was holding Jason up and he slid down the wall while projectile vomiting on all of us. The horrified officer told us to leave.

What would the title of your yet-to-be-written Pitchshifter tell-all literary masterpiece be? Future Primitive and the Elements of Refusal.

Your favorite recipe? Jim Beam and ice.

What has been the best experience while in the band? It's hard to isolate one incident. The various places we have played Genius: on Australian kids TV, on the beach in Jamaica, playing to 60,000 people at Milton Keynes. The traveling, and meeting cool people, go hand in hand.

And the worst? An Irish Pitchshifter fan had a car crash and was killed on the way to one of our Irish shows. His father still comes to see us play every time we are there.

20 years from now what do you want Pitchshifter to be remembered for? Being original and not following trends. I hope people just enjoy our music.
